Research at the intersection of Energy, Climate & Finance

The House of Energy, Climate & Finance – Markets, Systems and Decisions conducts research at the intersection of energy, climate and finance. The unique combination of energy, climate and financial economic methods forms the core of HECF. The pillars of HECF are the expertise and international visibility of its members. The research center provides a platform and supports the economic analysis and transition of energy systems towards climate neutrality.

It promotes the development of young scientists within its areas of expertise and fosters interdisciplinary collaboration.

Goals and Ambition

The House of Energy, Climate & Finance aims to become the leading institution in Germany to conduct research    at the intersections of energy, climate and finance. It builds on the expertise and international visibility of its members. The existing competencies of the participating chairs at the University of Duisburg-Essen are bundled in a center with international visibility that combines research and teaching on sustainable market, system and decision concepts.

A distinctive feature of HECF is the integration of expertise in empirical economic methods, quantitative finance, risk management, operations research, data science and engineering. Furthermore, the center serves as a crystallization point for additional competencies related to energy and climate systems. Building on existing teaching programs and research projects, the center provides a platform for economic analysis and, from an economic and decision-support perspective, supports the transformation of these systems. The HECF maintains close collaborations with companies, universities and research institutions. This interdisciplinary approach fosters innovative solutions to improve energy and climate systems.
